COVID-19 Testing at the PHMC Health Network

We are doing limited COVID-19 testing in our health centers. If you know someone experiencing flu-like symptoms, such as fever, cough or shortness of breath, please call: 855.887.9229 first to speak with a provider. Due to the limited amount of COVID-19 testing kits, we are ONLY testing people with certain symptoms. This situation may change as more kits become available. If you are not sick, the safest thing to do is avoid contact with others, particularly sick people. We are continuing to ensure extra preventive and precautionary measures are in place based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Philadelphia Department of Public Health. As this is a dynamic situation, we will update you as more information is available to us.

Federal law now requires all health insurers (except short-term plans) to cover all costs associated with COVID-19 testing – without imposing any copays or deductibles, and regardless of whether the provider is in-network. This requirement covers not only the actual test, but also the visit (whether in-person or via telehealth) that resulted in the order for the test.

As insurers are required to reimburse out-of-network providers for these services, the CARES Act requires providers that order and/or provide testing to post the cash price of these services on their public website. The PHMC Health Network will charge between $200 and $288 for the visit depending upon whether the patient is new or established and the complexity of the visit. The laboratory will bill separately for their services. However, the patient will not be liable to pay for testing services.
